Transfer a DVD in under a second?

Researchers at Bell Labs/Alcatel Lucent have developed a new fiber optic based technology that could make today's broadband seem like the days of 2400 baud modems.

So far the technology is capable of 2Tbps transmission of a 1,500 mile range. That's right fellow Junkies, 2 Terabits per second.

Crunch the numbers a bit and you'll find that you can:

Transfer a DVD in 2.3 milliseconds
Transfer a BlueRay disk in 24.4 milliseconds
